Children and Youth Programs

We ask that all new and returning youth have their parent/guardian fill out a registration form, once per year.  Thanks for sharing with us about your child!

Occasionally we have intergenerational services, in which our children and youth participate as part of the entire service.

Children are welcome to stay in the service if they prefer or in the sunshine room, where they can select an item to explore from our activities box.  Children must be supervised before, during and after service.  We ask that all folks walk for the safety of all congregants.

We begin at 10:30am by gathering together in the santuary.  We often sing an opening song, light the chalice and have opening words.  We then invite the children to come up to the front for a story time.  After the story, we create an arch way and sing our children out to their Religious Exploration program, facilitated by our RE staff.

After service, children and youth return upstairs.  We ask that children be supervised by the adult who accompanied them to service.  As it is a shared space and quite full on a Sunday mondays, we ask that all people walk verses run and be mindful of those around them.

PLEASE NOTE: We do not provide Religious Exploration programming on holiday weekends.  Children who do attend are welcome to stay in the service or pick an item to colour or create from our activity box located in the Sunshine room.

There is a park located across the street and a community garden in the back.  We are a few minutes walk to the speed river.

Nursery (ages 0-3)

During Sunday Services children aged 0-4 are invited to play in the Nursery. Our nursery staff provide fun games and activities as well as a healthy snack. Parents are always welcome to join the children in the nursery or keep the children with them during service.

Children (ages 4-9)

During Sunday Services, children aged 4-8 years old are invited to come downstairs after the story for all ages. The children play games, make crafts, read stories, and explore dance and drama through themes such as the environment, intangible gifts, the seven Unitarian principles, and world religions. Parents are always welcome to join the children downstairs or keep the children with them during service.

Youth (ages 9+)

During Sunday Services, the youth, aged 8-14 years old, are invited to come downstairs after the story for all ages. The youth share stories of their week and explore themes of values, world religions, Unitarianism and teenage-hood (for older youth) through games, music, drama, art and discussion. Parents are always welcome to join the youth downstairs and youth are also always welcome to stay upstairs in the service.

Youth Group (12+)

The youth group is a place for youth aged 12 and up to build friendship, community and stewardship in a fun and welcoming environment. Youth meet once a month for a themed event such as movie or games night, field trips to exhibits or shows, community volunteer projects (chosen and led by youth) and occasional sleepovers.

It approaches the topic in a holistic manner, exploring both the facts about anatomy and human development as well as individual values, interpersonal skills and spiritual, emotional and social aspects of sexuality in a non-judgemental way. For more information on OWL please see
