This ritual allows us to symbolically release what no longer serves us – worries, anxieties, regrets, and negative patterns. It is a link to our 4th principle: “A free and responsible search for truth and meaning” and is a ceremony often held in UU communities to symbolize the start of the New Year, letting go of the past and looking forward to the new.

During this service, we will:

Reflect: Spend time in quiet contemplation, identifying the things we wish to release.
Write: Write a short word or set of words representing these burdens on slips of paper.
Release: Place these slips of paper into the fire, witnessing their transformation.
Intend: Set intentions for the future, focusing on growth, healing, and positive change.
Connect: Share in community with others as we collectively release and renew.
